EAGLE BATTALION ORGANIZATION

The Battalion is organized into three main components - the Command Group, Companies and Teams, and the Staff.  This is a cadet-run battalion, meaning that a majority of the administration of the battalion is handled directly by cadets.  The following is a very brief description of how everything works.

The Command Group is composed of the Battalion Commander, the Battalion Executive Officer, and the Command Sergeant Major.  These positions are filled by senior cadets who have demonstrated strong leadership, teamwork, initiative, and a strong dedication to work for the constant improvement of the battalion.

There are four companies in the Eagle Battalion.  Each class period has its own company (1st period has Alpha Company, 2nd period has Bravo Company, and 4th period has Charlie Company).  The fourth company, Headquarters Company, has its members scattered throughout all three class periods.  Headquarters Company consists of all members of the five staff sections.

The five staff sections are as follows:

S-1 - This section is in charge of administration and personnel.  They maintain cadet records in the Joint Unit Management System (JUMS), cut promotion and award orders, and keep track of all suspense dates.

S-2 - This section is in charge of Safety and Security.  They prepare risk assessments for all events, post weather reports, and perform scheduled inventory checks.  They are also responsible for handling serious incident reports and accident reports when necessary.

S-3 - This section is in charge of Plans, Operations, Training, and Communications.  They maintain event folders for all events, brief the battalion leaders on all plans and operations, and set up the weekly training schedules (which are based on the 4th Brigade approved Master Training Schedule).  They also set up bus requests, permission letters, requests for payment for event-related expenses, and perform After Action Reviews of all events.  In addition, they maintain a master phone roster for the battalion, ensuring that all appropriate personnel have copies, and make sure that radios are maintained for all events.

S-4 - This section handles Budget and Supply.  They are responsible for tracking all government funds, the Cadet Fund, and maintaining accurate records of all budget activities.  They also conduct inventory reviews of all battalion uniforms and equipment, and place orders for new or replacement items as needed.  They maintain supply records in JUMS, and ensure that all equipment is properly handled.  This section also handles providing ribbons, rank insignia, and other needed materials to the companies for disbursement to cadets as appropriate.

S-5 - This section is in charge of Public Affairs and Recruiting.  They maintain close contact with the media and the County Office, providing articles and information, both to the school paper and to outside agencies.  They are responsible for setting up recruitment efforts at the middle school, and coordinating recruitment drives for the teams.

There are five teams in the Eagle Battalion - two competitive, and three non-competitive.  Each of these teams has a section of this website that is accessible from the home page.  The two competitive teams are Raiders and Drill Team.  These two teams are open to all cadets, but a cadet can only be on one or the other in a given semester.  Under no circumstances will a cadet belong to both Drill Team and Raiders during the same semester.

The three non-competitive teams are the Honor Guard, the Motor Pool, and the Color Detachment.  Honor Guard is open to cadets at LET-2 and above.  Motor Pool is open to all cadets, but they must sign up with the Motor Officer.  The Color Detachment, by its very nature, is made up of all cadets in the Battalion.

A major requirement for cadets in leadership positions is attendance at Command and Staff meetings, which are held the first and third Wednesday of every month.  These meetings are held in Hut 513 at 3:00 p.m., and are generally over no later than 4:00 p.m.  Attendance is mandatory for the following:  the Command Group, Company Commanders and their first sergeants, Team Commanders, Staff Section leaders, and Staff NCOICs.  If a cadet is given one of these positions and cannot be at Command and Staff meetings on a regular basis, it is his or her responsibility to inform LTC Anderson so that he may put someone else into that position.

The above information is by no means a complete listing of everything done by each component of the Battalion.  It is simply provided to give a general idea of the structure of our program.
